Califa Tapas triples its space by moving to Corredera 55 in Vejer

The owner of the Califa Group’s emblematic restaurant Corredera 55, Ellie Cormié, transfers the business to dedicate 100% of her time to her burgeoning interior design firm Ellie Cormié Interiores.

“It has been an honor for me to be at the helm of Corredera 55 for eight years. I close this stage of my life happily knowing that my team will continue to keep their jobs and that I’ll be able to dedicate myself 100% to my interior design projects”, says Ellie.

Her husband James, director of the Califa Group tells us, “Ellie is the soul of Corredera 55, without her the business would not be the same. Her inventiveness and skill in the kitchen as well as her really special treatment of customers would make the restaurant an empty place without her so we felt it would be best to move Califa Tapas into the space and lend the business a whole new life”.

“It has been an honor for me to be at the helm of Corredera 55 for eight years. I close this stage happily knowing that my team will continue to keep their jobs”, says Ellie. “Hospitality is a very tough and energy consuming business, I found it impossible to run two successful businesses concurrently, I’m very happy to be able to dedicate myself 100% to my design business”.

Her firm Ellie Cormié Interiores, elliecormie.com has experienced a very significant boost in recent years. “Having created one of the most important restaurants in Vejer’s gastronomic scene, the success has given me a lot of satisfaction, but I am a person who is always looking for new experiences, and now is a good time to make this change”.

This year is the 17th anniversary of the Califa Tapas and in response to the growing public demand it has experienced in recent years, it will significantly increase its space by moving to Corredera 55. “We are very excited because we are going to be open all year round. We have a very loyal public and changing the seasonality to open all 12 months is good for both diners and employees,” says James.

The philosophy of Califa Tapas will remain the same, a place with personality and informal style, ideal to enjoy relaxing moments, with good food and panoramic views from the terrace. Nor will its menu change, which will continue to feature a wide variety of tapas, not only from Vejer and Andalusia, but from all over Spain, extending even to Italy, Turkey and the Middle East. Not forgetting, of course, some of the most popular dishes of the restaurant El Jardín del Califa.

Califa Tapas will reopen its doors next Sunday, February 11, to welcome its customers. A new season in a new location but with the same essence.
