El Jardín del Califa and Corredera 55 take part in the wine event Vinavejer

From 28 October to 1 November Vejer will be the wine capital for the first edition of Vinavejer. The event, organised by the Andalusian Wine Association, will bring together wines from the province of Cádiz in a single event. A total of 12 restaurants from the region will take part, including El Jardín del Califa and Corredera 55, from the Califa Group, as well as 12 wineries from the province of Cádiz.  

Wine lovers will enjoy package tours or experiences, such as, for example, a paired lunch or dinner with wine tasting beforehand. “The aim is to raise awareness of the wines of the province of Cádiz,” says Mario de la Juana, from the restaurant La Judería.

October 30th, taste wine in El Jardín del Califa

The first day of wine tastings will take place on Saturday 30 October. From 12:00 to 13:00 people will have the opportunity to enjoy wine tasting at El Jardín del Califa by the González Byass winery. The event will begin with a Tío Pepe, “one of the driest wines in the world”, explains oenologist Silvia Flores, the experience will continue with a Solera, “a sweet wine” and will end with an Amontillado Viña AB. “We will see the most representative wines, that’s mean, the leading styles within the wide range of wines that exist in Jerez and in the González Byass winery”. Wines which, according to the oenologist, “are ideal for pairing with a cuisine full of contrasts such as El Jardín del Califa”. You can book your tasting by email at jardin@vejer.com.

October 31, taste wine in Corredera 55

Vinavejer continues on Sunday with a second day of wine tastings in different restaurants like Corredera 55, of the Califa’s Group, which will offer a tasting of sparkling wines from BodegaVinificate (San Fernando). Places are limited. How to book? Please call at 956 451 848 or 621 262 869.

On Monday 1st November, a bank holiday, the ‘Emparéjate con vino’ Contest will take place at Bodegas Gallardo from 12:00. This wine tasting competition in pairs will have an entrance fee of 10 euros per person, which will go entirely to Cáritas. The prize for the best pair of tasters will be a batch of wines from Cádiz. At the end of the tasting, there will be a tasting of oysters from Marconil and cold meats from the vejeriega butcher’s shop of Paco Melero.
