One of Andalucia’s prime eating destinations the Jardín del Califa serves authentic Moroccan and Middle Eastern food in stone vaulted dining rooms with a lush palm-filled courtyard set in an emblematic 16th century building. Recommended by the Michelin Guide. Consistently Vejer’s most popular restaurant.
Immerse yourself with the sound of the fountain, the scent of jasmine, the rustle of the palms. The Califa will take you back in time to when the Arabs ruled Andalucía more than 700 years ago. Enjoy amongst many other dishes a traditional lebanese mezze, harira, tagines, cous cous, succulent lamb kebabs on the barbecue or crispy pastelas of chicken and almonds. Our desserts are all mode here offering baklava, moroccan pastries, fondant with tahini, date cheesecakes amongst other delicacies.
The Califa has been recommended by the MICHELIN Guide for several years and has the ‘Andalucía Segura’ seal. You can not leave without enjoying a tea or a cocktail admiring the wonderful views from the panoramic terrace of the Tetería del Califa, next to the restaurant.
Open every day from 12.00 to 22.30
Due to consistent popularity the demand for tables is high. We highly recommend you make a reservation for dinner at any time & for lunch especially Easter week, public holidays & June to October.
If the specific dining area you wish to reserve does not appear on the list that means it is not available for the hour you have chosen. Either choose another hour or another day.
We are open every day of the week for lunch and dinner all year.
Candle lit romance
This unique space is our smallest dining room with just one table for a maximum of 7. The ‘Aljibe’ is the interior of an ancient water cistern built during the Islamic era of Vejer.
A vaulted wonder
The barrel vaulted ‘Templo’ dates back to 1527 and its chapel like feeling gave us the inspiration for its name. The stonework is in exceptionally fine condition and like the rest of our restaurant is romantically lit. There are five tables for 2, a table for 5 and two tables for 4. For special groups this dining room can be set up in banquet form. The tables are French oak and made locally while the chairs are all sourced from India.
Views to the garden
In summer the glass curtain is removed leaving the entire dining room open to the garden. Stone arches frame one end of the room and illuminated with 5 elaborate lamps and Moroccan candles, this is the favourite eating area of many of our guests. There are four tables for 2, five tables for 4 and a table for 8. Some tables can be joined to form larger tables depending on the needs of the guests.
The tables of the Pergola and the garden are all made in Marrakech in the style of Gueliz, with finely cut ceramic pieces. The metal chairs are also from Morocco.
Dining under the stars
A summer night under the stars with the scent of jasmine in the air and the tinkle of a fountain to serenade you or a winter lunch in the dappled shade of our palm trees can be one of the most memorable moments of a visit to Vejer.
