Autumn arrives in Vejer de la Frontera and the surrounding area with a packed calendar of events and activities. Food trails, sporting competitions, music festivals and cultural exhibitions make the coming months the perfect opportunity to discover the Costa de la Luz from a different perspective.<\/p>\n

When summer comes to an end, Vejer slows down but loses none of its charm. The temperatures become milder, the beaches return to their peaceful rhythm and the whitewashed streets of the old town invite you to explore at your leisure. It’s the perfect time to enjoy sunny terraces, long, leisurely lunches and the hidden corners that make this part of Andalusia so special.<\/p>\n

Autumn also brings some of the most eagerly anticipated events in the local calendar. International Lomo en Manteca Day, the traditional Vejer Hill Climb, gastronomic trails celebrating Retinto beef, the Jazzahara festival and international equestrian competitions at Montenmedio are just some of the reasons to plan a getaway.<\/p>\n

If you’re thinking of visiting Vejer and the surrounding area over the coming months, here are the events you won’t want to miss.<\/p>\n

September and October: The Event Season Begins<\/h3>\n

30 September to 4 October: Sierra del Ret\u00edn Organic Beef Food Trail<\/strong><\/p>\n

Barbate kicks off the autumn food season with the third edition of the Sierra del Ret\u00edn Organic Beef Food Trail<\/a>, a celebration of the town’s livestock-farming heritage and one of its most distinctive local products.<\/p>\n

The programme begins on 30 September with a live cooking demonstration and tasting in Plaza del Faro. From 1 to 4 October, twelve bars and restaurants across Barbate will serve special tapas made with this locally reared organic beef.<\/p>\n

The event also includes butchery demonstrations and activities introducing visitors to extensive livestock farming and the origins of local produce. A delicious excuse to discover Barbate through its food.<\/p>\n

2 to 4 October: 42nd Vejer Hill Climb<\/strong><\/p>\n

Vejer once again takes centre stage in Andalusian motorsport with the 42nd edition of its traditional hill climb.<\/p>\n

Over three days, drivers and motorsport enthusiasts will gather in the town for a competition with more than four decades of history, now firmly established as one of the area’s major sporting events.<\/p>\n

Organised by Escuder\u00eda Sur<\/a>, the event promises a weekend of racing and motorsport atmosphere, with drivers from Vejer and across Andalusia taking part.<\/p>\n

It’s an opportunity to discover a different side of Vejer and combine the excitement of motorsport with a stroll through its historic old town.<\/p>\n

7 to 12 October: 13th Retinto Beef Food Trail in Zahara de los Atunes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zahara de los Atunes once again pays tribute to one of the region’s most distinctive products: Retinto beef.<\/p>\n

Over six days, participating establishments in the 13th Retinto Beef Food Trail will offer a variety of dishes combining traditional recipes with contemporary creations. Tapas, tastings and cultural activities will be part of a celebration that invites visitors to explore Zahara’s bars and restaurants.<\/p>\n

It’s a wonderful opportunity to discover the area’s rich culinary heritage and enjoy a stroll along its beaches, which regain their tranquillity in autumn.<\/p>\n

10 October: Gastro Music Festival Vejer<\/strong><\/p>\n

On 10 October, Vejer comes alive with music and flavour as the Gastro Music Festival<\/a> returns for another edition. Combining local gastronomy with live concerts in bars and restaurants throughout the town, the festival offers a musical and culinary journey through Vejer’s streets. Enjoy local flavours, discover new artists and soak up the atmosphere of Vejer in autumn.<\/p>\n

11 October: 9th International Lomo en Manteca Day<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Sunday 11 October, Vejer celebrates one of the most popular gastronomic events in its calendar: International Lomo en Manteca Day.<\/p>\n

Now in its ninth edition, the festival is dedicated to one of the town’s most iconic recipes: pork loin preserved in seasoned pork fat, a dish passed down through generations and closely linked to Vejer’s traditional butchers and roadside eateries.<\/p>\n

Lomo en manteca takes centre stage in a celebration that brings together locals and visitors to enjoy Vejer’s culinary heritage and recognise those who keep this tradition alive.<\/p>\n

An unmissable event for anyone wishing to discover Vejer through its most authentic flavours.<\/p>\n

October and November: International Sport, Music and Gastronomy<\/h3>\n

13 October to 8 November: Andaluc\u00eda October Tour at Montenmedio<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Dehesa Montenmedio facilities, just a few kilometres from Vejer, once again welcome international riders and teams for the sixth Andaluc\u00eda October Tour<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For almost four weeks, the Sunshine Tour equestrian centre will host international showjumping competitions, bringing together competitors from different countries and turning the region into a meeting point for the equestrian world.<\/p>\n

The event offers a chance to experience the atmosphere of major equestrian competitions and discover one of the Costa de la Luz’s best-known sporting venues.<\/p>\n

For those travelling to Vejer for the tour, autumn is also an invitation to explore beyond the competition. Wandering through the historic old town, visiting the beaches of Los Ca\u00f1os de Meca and discovering the region’s gastronomy are just some of the ways to make the most of an extended stay.<\/p>\n

La Paternilla hosts the first edition of Algarrobo, Cultura Rural<\/em>, an open-door event bringing together art, culture and sustainability in the rural surroundings of Vejer. Over two days, residents, artists and local groups will open up their spaces and share their projects through guided visits, workshops, exhibitions, live music, markets and competitions.<\/p>\n
