International Lomo en Manteca Day takes centre stage this weekend
Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 October
One of the highlights of Vejer’s autumn food calendar returns with the 9th International Lomo en Manteca Day, celebrating one of the town’s most traditional specialities: pork loin slowly cooked and preserved in seasoned lard.
At Califa Tapas, we’re joining the celebrations with two special dishes. Until Sunday, you can enjoy our mini lomo en manteca roll topped with a quail’s egg, perfect for breakfast or as a savoury bite with a cold beer. On Sunday, to coincide with International Lomo en Manteca Day, we’ll also be serving lomo en manteca croquettes, our own take on this much-loved local speciality.

The official programme begins on Saturday 10 October at 8 pm, with live cooking demonstrations and a showcooking event in Plaza de España.
Sunday 11 October is the main day of celebrations. From 9 am, La Plazuela will host a traditional breakfast featuring zurrapa, prepared by the town’s older residents. At 10 am, stalls run by local butchers and producers will open along the Muralla de la Segur, giving visitors the chance to discover this traditional Vejer speciality.
Between noon and 2 pm, a lively brass band will make its way through the streets of the old town, adding music and a festive atmosphere to the occasion. Several local bars and restaurants will also be serving special dishes featuring lomo en manteca.
A wonderful opportunity to discover Vejer’s traditional cuisine and meet the local producers keeping its culinary heritage alive.
