From 24 September to 1 October 2026, Vejer de la Frontera welcomes autumn with a packed programme of activities. Concerts, flamenco, cultural visits, gastronomic experiences and outdoor activities come together alongside celebrations for World Tourism Day. Discover our suggestions for enjoying Vejer and the surrounding area this week.
Autumn begins with a particularly lively week in Vejer. The town is preparing to celebrate World Tourism Day with open days, guided tours and cultural activities that invite visitors to discover its history, traditions and some of its most special corners.
Live music, flamenco and artistic experiences will share the spotlight with opportunities to enjoy nature and local gastronomy. Here are some of our suggestions for the days ahead.
Friday 25 September: An Evening of Music, Theatre and Flamenco
Friday brings a variety of cultural events to enjoy an evening out in Vejer.
At 8.30 pm, La Ventolera Cultural Centre hosts the acoustic concert Canciones para la conciencia, featuring Maribel Astorga and Silvia Castro. An evening of live music in a venue dedicated to culture and artistic creativity.
At 9 pm, the San Francisco Municipal Theatre presents the play Mano a mano, with free admission subject to availability.
At the same time, the Peña Cultural Flamenca Aguilar de Vejer hosts the show De la esquina de la Pita, featuring Paca Rodríguez on dance, Diego de Gloria on vocals and Juan Manuel Fernández on guitar. A wonderful opportunity to enjoy flamenco in one of the town’s most traditional cultural venues.

Saturday 26 September: Heritage, Wine and Art at Sunset
Saturday offers a combination of heritage, gastronomy and contemporary art.
Vejer Castle opens its doors from 11 am to 2 pm, offering visitors the chance to explore one of the town’s most important historic monuments.
At midday, Sancha Pérez, an organic winery in El Palmar, hosts a guided tour and wine tasting. An opportunity to learn about local winemaking, discover the work of a local winery and sample some of its wines.
To round off the day, the Montenmedio Contemporary Art Foundation offers a unique experience: watching James Turrell’s light sequence at sunset.
The installation uses light and colour to transform our perception of the sky, creating an artistic experience that evolves as the sun goes down.
The programme also includes a guided tour under the full moon at 10 pm.

Sunday 27 September: Nature, Crafts and Traditions
Sunday is the perfect opportunity to discover Vejer’s rural surroundings.
The day begins at 9.30 am with a guided hike through Pozo Dulce and Sotillo. This two-hour walk sets off from the rural hamlet of Nájara and offers an opportunity to enjoy the landscape and explore some of the area’s traditional paths.
From 10 am to 3 pm, Santa Lucía hosts its craft market, a chance to discover the work of local artisans and explore one of Vejer’s most beautiful natural settings.
Those looking for a creative experience can take part in a clay therapy workshop led by Juan María Fernández at 11 am at Raíces Vejeriegas.
Vejer Castle will also open its doors again from 11 am to 2 pm.

Tuesday 29 September: Vejer Celebrates World Tourism Day
One of the week’s most special events takes place on Tuesday 29 September.
At 7 pm, Plaza de España will host the official World Tourism Day ceremony, during which Vejer will recognise individuals and businesses that have contributed to the town’s tourism development.
This year’s event holds particular significance for Grupo Califa, as James Stuart, the Group’s founder, will receive the honorary title of Vejeriego de Adopción (Honorary Citizen of Vejer).
Since arriving in Vejer in 1988, James has developed a project deeply connected to the town, its heritage and its gastronomy.
The celebrations will also include awards for tourism businesses, recognition of the town’s Tourism Ambassador and a musical performance by Recalma.

Wednesday 30 September: Museums and Contemporary Art
Wednesday offers an opportunity to discover Vejer’s cultural heritage, with free admission to the Museum of Customs and Traditions and the Museum of History and Archaeology.
Both museums will be open free of charge from 10.30 am to 2 pm and from 5 pm to 8 pm.
At 7 pm, the Montenmedio Contemporary Art Foundation presents the guided tour Tourism, Art and Light, focusing on the work of James Turrell. An experience that explores how the artist transforms our perception of space through light.

Thursday 1 October: Vejer, One of Spain’s Most Beautiful Villages
October begins with a symbolic ceremony at Vejer Town Hall.
At 10 am, the flag of Los Pueblos Más Bonitos de España (Spain’s Most Beautiful Villages) will be raised, recognising the town’s historic heritage, architecture and appeal as a tourist destination.
At 11 am, the San Francisco Municipal Theatre will host a panel discussion on employment in the tourism sector, led by expert Fernando Gallardo. Entitled From Staff Shortages to “I Want to Work Here”: How to Make Tourism Businesses Attractive Places to Work, the discussion will explore how tourism businesses can become more appealing employers.
A day dedicated to reflecting on the present and future of one of the most important sectors for Vejer and the surrounding region.
Throughout the Week: Discover Vejer from a Different Perspective
Beyond the scheduled events, Vejer offers plenty of ways to discover its history, streets and traditions.
Guided tours with Vejer Tour and Vejer Freetours offer the opportunity to explore the historic old town and discover some of its most iconic monuments, legends and hidden corners.
For those who prefer to explore after dark, Marimantas Vejer offers La noche oscura de Vejer (The Dark Night of Vejer) every evening at 9 pm. This guided tour combines storytelling, local history and music.
