October begins in Vejer with a programme combining motorsport, culture, nature, art and walks through the historic old town. If you’re spending a few days in the village, take note: from Friday 2 to Thursday 8 October, there are plenty of ways to enjoy Vejer and the surrounding area at almost any time of day.
Friday 2 October: the Subida a Vejer gets underway
The weekend begins with one of the most eagerly awaited sporting events of the year: the 42nd Subida a Vejer. The official presentation of the drivers will take place at 8.30 pm on Avenida San Miguel, before the roar of the engines takes centre stage on Saturday and Sunday.

During the day, you can also discover the village on foot with guided tours from Vejer Freetours or Vejer Tour.
And when night falls, there is a completely different way to explore its streets: La Noche Oscura de Vejer, a guided tour with stories and songs by Marimantas Vejer, departs at 8.30 pm from Plaza de España. Advance booking is required.
Saturday 3 October: motorsport, nature, theatre and art at sunset
Saturday gets off to a lively start with the 42nd Subida a Vejer, Andalusian Hill Climb Championship. Scrutineering begins at 9.30 am, with Stage A starting from 1.30 pm on the Vejer-Barbate CA-5203 road.
For those who prefer a plan combining nature and history, a guided visit to the Torre del Tajo will take place from 10.00 am to 2.00 pm, in the heart of La Breña y Marismas del Barbate Natural Park.
In the evening, the programme branches out into other areas. At 8.00 pm, the Teatro Municipal San Francisco hosts a performance of “El Inspector” in aid of AVADIS, with tickets priced at €8.
And to end the day with one of those experiences that tends to stay with you, the Fundación Montenmedio Contemporánea offers the chance to experience James Turrell’s light sequence at sunset. The activity is subject to availability and must be booked in advance.

Sunday 4 October: market and the final day of the Subida
The competition continues on Sunday with Stage B of the 42nd Subida a Vejer, starting from 10.30 am.
At around the same time, another Vejer Sunday classic begins: Rastro Vejer, a second-hand, bargain and craft market held around Calle Juan Relinque from 10.00 am to 3.00 pm.
The visit to the Torre del Tajo is also available again, while at sunset there will be another opportunity to experience James Turrell’s light installation at Montenmedio Contemporánea.
A Sunday, then, that can begin surrounded by nature or engines, continue browsing stalls and antiques, and end immersed in art.
Monday 5 to Wednesday 7: discover Vejer at a slower pace
Once the weekend comes to an end, Vejer returns to a gentler rhythm, perfect for wandering through its whitewashed streets, squares and historic corners.
During these days, Vejer Freetours continue to run, with departures at 10.30 am and 5.00 pm subject to advance booking, while Vejer Tour offers visits at different times depending on the day.
Every evening, La Noche Oscura de Vejer also returns, combining history, legends and songs while exploring some of the most atmospheric corners of the old town. Tours depart at 8.30 pm from Plaza de España and must be booked in advance.
Thursday 8 October: a morning at the market
The week ends with Vejer’s traditional Thursday market on Calle El Chorrillo, open from 9.00 am to 2.00 pm. A good excuse to start the morning browsing the stalls before continuing to explore the historic centre.
Guided tours with Vejer Freetours and Vejer Tour also continue throughout the day, along with another evening tour from Marimantas Vejer.
Art to enjoy throughout the week
Beyond the individual events, October brings another good reason to visit the Marqués de Tamarón area: the exhibition “Dürer, Rembrandt and Rubens and their circle through original etchings and engravings”, which can be visited until 18 December 2026.
The exhibition is open Tuesday to Sunday, from 10.30 am to 2.00 pm and from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm, with general admission priced at €4.
And if you’re looking for a moment to slow down…
October is also a good time to balance the cultural programme with a little downtime. Among the wellness spaces included in Vejer’s tourism offering is Hammam Vejer, on Calle Eduardo Shelly, a perfect option to slot in between walks, visits and weekend plans.

Motorsport on the road, art among the cork oaks, theatre, markets, walks through centuries-old streets and evenings filled with legends. October begins by proving that Vejer pays little attention to seasons: there is always something new to discover.
