Vejer de la Frontera is enjoying one of the liveliest weeks of the summer. From 13 to 20 August, the town comes alive with live music, flamenco, children’s activities, cultural tours, contemporary art and some of the most eagerly awaited celebrations of the season.
If you are in Vejer over the next few days, make a note of some of the highlights from the programme published by Vejer de la Frontera Town Council.
Thursday 13 August: activities for the whole family
In the evening, Plaza de España becomes one of the main stages for the day’s events.
At 9:30 pm, there will be the children’s show Fiesta en la Granja, together with face painting. At 10:30 pm, students from the Paca Rodríguez Dance School will perform, followed at 11:30 pm by D-Rubio x J-Dance.
There will also be sunset music in El Palmar, with concerts at various venues along the beach.
Friday 14 August: flamenco and live music
On Friday, guided tours of Vejer’s historic centre offer the chance to discover another side of the town, with tours taking place in both the morning and afternoon.
One of the highlights of the evening programme takes place at the Centro Cultural Municipal Antigua Iglesia del Rosario, where a flamenco show will begin at 10:00 pm, featuring Alejandro Silva and Miriam Carrasco on vocals, Noelia Castillo and Miriam Carrasco dancing, and Raúl Vicenti on guitar. Admission is free.
From 11:00 pm, Plaza de España will host Trío Blue Sound and Sandra DJ.
In El Palmar, the sunset will be accompanied by performances from Dr Diablo, Carmen and Tomasito.
Saturday 15 August: the procession of the Virgen de la Oliva
15 August is one of the most important dates on Vejer’s local calendar.
At 8:00 pm, the procession of Nuestra Señora de la Oliva Coronada will take place, following a route through several streets in the historic centre. It will leave from the Church of El Divino Salvador, passing through La Plazuela, La Corredera and Plaza de España before returning to the church.
Contemporary culture will also have its place on the programme. At sunset, the Fundación Montenmedio Contemporánea is organising a visit to James Turrell’s light sequence, an experience that requires advance booking.
The evening will continue with flamenco at the Antigua Iglesia del Rosario at 10:00 pm, followed by Trío Blue Sound and Pablo Morillo DJ in Plaza de España from 11:00 pm.
Sunday 16 August: grand final of the Flamenco Singing Competition
Flamenco once again takes centre stage on Sunday.
At 10:30 pm, Plaza de España will host the grand final of the 27th “Ciudad de Vejer” Flamenco Singing Competition for Amateur Performers, one of the highlights of the town’s cultural programme during these dates.
During the day, visitors can also explore the Torre del Tajo, take part in a variety of guided tours around Vejer or discover James Turrell’s installation at Montenmedio at sunset.
Monday 17 August: flamenco night in Plaza de España
The festive atmosphere continues on Monday with several evening performances.
At 11:00 pm, the Tablao Flamenco de Paca Rodríguez y Paula Yinet will perform in Plaza de España. At midnight, the flamenco group Cosas Nuestras will take to the stage.
There will also be live music from Ana Alcántara from 11:00 pm at 4 Tapas Vejer.
Tuesday 18 August: K-Pop, children’s activities and flamenco
Tuesday’s evening programme begins with a flamenco gathering at the Peña Cultural Flamenca from 8:00 pm.
Families can head to Plaza de España at 9:30 pm for the children’s show Experiencia K-Pop, Cosplay Huntrix y la Payasa Piruleta, together with face painting.
This will be followed by performances from the students of Rincón Mágico from 10:30 pm and Toñi Romero at 11:30 pm.
Wednesday 19 August: copla and music in Plaza de España
On Wednesday, Plaza de España will host the Día del Mayor Concert from 10:30 pm, featuring Fernando Vega, followed by a copla performance starring Ismael Rodríguez and Naomi Santos, accompanied by Miguel Ángel Salas on piano.
The evening’s music continues at 11:00 pm with En Clave de Dos at 4 Tapas Vejer.
Thursday 20 August: carnival to round off the week
The final day in this guide begins with the market on Calle El Chorrillo, from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, together with guided tours of the historic centre and the Montenmedio Sculpture Park.
In the evening, Nano de Marbella will perform flamenco at 9:30 pm at Caragato Taberna Flamenca.
One of Thursday’s main events, however, takes place at 11:00 pm in Plaza de España, with the Noche de Carnaval “DSAS3” by Jesús Bienvenido, winner of first prize at COAC 2026. The programme continues at 12:30 am with David Moreno DJ.
Guided tours and recurring activities throughout the week
As well as the special events taking place each day, there are several ways to discover Vejer’s heritage throughout the week.
Vejer Freetours offers tours departing from La Plazuela, while Vejer Tour organises the Un paseo por Vejer route from Parque de Los Remedios. In the evenings, Marimantas Vejer presents La Noche Oscura de Vejer, an original guided tour with music and storytelling, departing from Plaza de España.
Another place well worth visiting is the Fundación Montenmedio Contemporánea, one of the most distinctive open-air contemporary art spaces in the area. During July and August, it is open from Tuesday to Sunday, both in the morning and afternoon.
Exhibitions offering another perspective on Vejer
The cultural programme is completed by a selection of exhibitions. The Museum of History and Archaeology is hosting La misma orilla, dos tiempos, by Carlos Montaño and María Ponce, and Entorno, by Juan Manuel Basallote and Antonio Larrubia.
Throughout August, the Antigua Iglesia del Rosario is also home to Flamencas ilustradas, an exhibition combining photography and illustration by Isa de la Calle and Susana Subirana.
Another option is to visit Hotel Convento San Francisco to discover Marinas Urbanas III, by Nando Caravaca.
A week to enjoy Vejer
Tradition, flamenco, music, heritage, family-friendly activities and contemporary art fill Vejer’s calendar during one of the busiest weeks of August.
